Today, Thursday, the graduation ceremony of a course entitled Basics of Space Science and Technology was celebrated on the campus of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, which was organized by the Regional Center for Teaching Space Science and Technology for West Asia, in cooperation with Princess Sumaya University.
The Director-General of the Regional Center, Colonel Eng. Muammar Haddadin, distributed the certificates to the students who passed this course, in the presence of the Acting President of the University, Dr. Wejdan Abu Al-Hija, a number of deans of engineering and scientific faculties, heads of departments and some professors from both sides.
The course included several main themes of the Office of Outer Space for Peaceful Affairs, namely: global navigation systems via satellite, communications via satellite, meteorology and global climate via satellite, and space and atmospheric sciences.
In this course, he presented multiple and basic topics in the study of space science and technology, including: a general introduction to space science and its applications, celestial coordinate systems, movement and orbits of satellites, the importance of electromagnetic radiation in space communications and remote sensing, as well as various topics in atmospheric sciences and space weather.
This course included a theoretical presentation on the theory of orbits and the movement of two bodies under the influence of mutual gravitation between them, and a computer simulation of the orbits of the various types of satellites, as well as some numerical methods for calculating the orbits of the satellites and some special interactive software. Vivid examples of some satellites and how to calculate orbits manually and using software and compare the results, as well as an extensive explanation of the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere and the study of its impact on the movement of satellites. Students were introduced to some astronomical instruments.
The principles of the atmosphere and climate change were also presented, and some United Nations conventions on climate change were presented, as well as the interaction of matter with radiation, with a focus on the layers of the atmosphere and solar physics, including solar activity and the principles of space weather, and studying the impact of space weather on space missions and satellites, in addition to some important applications of satellites. industrial in addition to space law and the United Nations treaties related to space affairs.
45 students from Princess Sumaya University for Technology participated in this course from different scientific faculties: engineering, technology and computing, and another intensive course for students of Al-Balqa Applied University will start next Sunday, in which about 40 students from various engineering and physical disciplines will participate.
