The United Nations asked West Asian countries to express their desire to host the regional center, so many Arab countries interested in hosting the regional center for teaching space sciences for Arabic speakers submitted official requests to the United Nations, and later the United Nations organized an evaluation mission for the countries that offered to host this center .
2000
The report of the United Nations General Assembly of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee stated the following: “After reviewing the report of the assessment mission and the commitments made by the interested countries, Jordan has been selected as the country that will host the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for West Asia,” the Office for Space Affairs announced. Outside the establishment of the site of this center in Jordan, hosted within the Royal Jordanian Geographical Center.
2011
During the meeting of the 54th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS), it was officially announced that the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan had accepted to host the Regional Center for Teaching Space Science and Technology for Western Asia, hosted within the Royal Jordanian Geographical Center.
2012
The Regional Center for Teaching Space Science and Technology for West Asia / the United Nations in Jordan was officially opened under the royal patronage on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, thus becoming the regional center among six regional centers spread around the world, and agreements were signed with various countries of the region to join the center.

Implementation of the academic programs and projects began, starting with the implementation of an academic program to grant a master’s degree in geographic information systems and remote sensing with Mut’ah University.
